Guam fiesta

Local Village Fiestas
If you want to experience local culture (or food) at its best, go to a fiesta.  A tradition introduced by the Spaniards in 1668, nearly every village throws one each year in celebration of its patron saint's day.  The festivities begin on Saturday with a mass at the village church, followed by a procession and two days of feasting and fun.

That weekend, the whole village becomes a giant party with friends, family and everyone else visiting from all over the island!  Just go walk around and meet people.  You are guaranteed to be invited in for a free meal.

Liberation Celebration
Whereas Independence Day (July 4) is not a particularly significant holiday on Guam, we passionately celebrate our Liberation by the American troops in World War II (July 21, 1944) is the day the troops landed.

For the whole month of July, the Liberation Carnival - complete with rides, games, and food - fills Joseph Flores Beach Park.  And on the actual holiday, there is a huge parade in Hagatna followed at night by a magnificent fireworks display over Tumon Bay.
